September Greetings from Chair David Gibson

Dear ASQ-0704 members,

John McCain remembrance
With the events of this week I thought I would take a brief deviation from my typical message. I don’t mean to be political so please take this as a message of unity and collaboration.

This past week the city of Phoenix, the state of Arizona and the entire country lost a great leader and voice for collaboration. Our senior senator John McCain passed away following a courageous battle with brain cancer. While I can’t say he has had much connection with ASQ or the Quality movement besides supporting quality American-made goods, in the words that have been spoken in his honor, I hear the need to come together and work for the common good. We all need to keep that sentiment in mind as the ASQ organization implements some very significant changes. There are strong opinions on each side of the debate; however, we need to work together for the greater good of the Society. I am hopeful that Senator McCain’s words continue to ring true and we can get the job done that is needed.

Okay, back to my communication for the ASQ Phoenix section…

I would like to welcome our newest Section member leader, Ms. Deepa Deepa, whom has agreed to fill the position of Publicity & OutReach Chair on the Section’s Executive Committee. This position is key to identifying and managing our strategic and operational plans to “Expand Our Reach” and “Grow Our Impact”.

We are also nearing that time of the year where Sections need to identify members to fill leadership positions going into next year. We will be collecting nominations over the next several weeks for the section team. Also, the new Region is due for a Director this year. Please contact one of our executive leaders if you have a name for consideration.

The ASQ transformation project is moving forward; our Section 2019 budget and business plan must be submitted to ASQ HQ by the end of the month. The Section leadership team is currently refining the plans we developed last month to meet this target.

To wrap up this Chair’s Message please join us at the monthly membership Program meeting this month, September 13, 2018 when Kazue Balint presents “A Stratification Project (Quality in food processing)”. This should be an interesting topic about an industry we haven’t heard much from. The Section will be piloting a live webcast of this month’s Program meeting. Look for more details in the Program Meeting announcement on our website, as well as our LinkedIn Group and Facebook page. We look forward to seeing you there.

Thank you,

Dave Gibson – Chair ASQ-0704, Valley of the Sun.
